The Corinth Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating a Tuesday night head-on collision on U.S. 72 which left one woman dead and a man seriously injured.

Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance told the Daily Corinthian the fatal accident victim is 53-year-old Teresa Rennicke of CR 611, Walnut. Witnesses confirmed a 2007 Ford Focus was westbound in the eastbound lane on U.S. 72. Rennicke was identified as the driver of the Focus.

“The driver was on the wrong side of the road,” said Dance. “It is dark in that area. A first car managed to swerve into the turning lane to avoid a crash, but it struck a second one.”

The 9 p.m. Tuesday accident happened near the intersection of the Kimberly-Clark Parkway east of Corinth.

The Focus hit a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by 31-year-old Nathaniel Kilgore of Huntsville, Ala. The accident victim was airlifted by Air Evac to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries, said Dance.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the impact.

The accident victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones.

Assisting Corinth police were Corinth Fire Department First Responders, Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
