IUKA – A teen was killed Thursday morning in a one-vehicle wreck in Tishomingo County.

William Lucas McMahan, 18, apparently lost control of his Chevrolet Blazer SUV while traveling near Mineral Springs Park in Iuka around 7 a.m. A rain slick roadway apparently caused McMahan’s vehicle to slide off Quitman Street and into a ditch where his vehicle flipped, landing upside down in Indian Creek.

A senior at Tishomingo County High School, McMahan was reportedly on his way to school when the accident happened.

Shortly after hearing the news, the teen’s fellow classmates met in front of the school for prayer.

“This is surreal,” said TCHS student Kylie Thigpen. “Lucas had the biggest heart. He was constantly going out of his way to help anyone he could.”

Classmate Kristin Nguyen said she’ll miss McMahan.

“He was very genuine and one of the first friends I made when I moved to Iuka,” she said.

McMahan enjoyed playing sports and had recently become a manager at McDonald’s in Iuka.
