If Corinth High School held a dedication ceremony before every home event, the recent trend would show an unblemished record.

Odds are, though, the shutout streak would eventually be snapped.

Corinth dedicated its new artificial surface on the 20th anniversary of Warrior Stadium II and rode 464 rushing yards and five take-aways in a 42-0 win over Kossuth on Friday in the season opener for both clubs.

Thursday, Corinth opened its softball complex with a 14-0 win over Biggersville.

Montavious Shields rushed for 183 yards and a pair of scores on 18 carries and Isaac Haney added 171 and a score on 17 hard runs as Corinth averaged just shy of nine yards per carry.

Antares Gwyn added 88 yards on the ground and accounted for two scores, including a fourth-quarter scoring toss to Armad Wicks.

Corinth broke the game open early, scoring 21 points in the opening quarter. All three came off Kossuth turnovers, the first via the direct route on Javen Morrison’s 34 yard interception return on the game’s opening possession.

The Warriors finished with five take-aways, with Kerrigan Maness adding a pair of interceptions. CHS recovered a pair of fumbles courtesy Dee Brown and Deonte Keith.

Shields carried the load in the first half with 148 -- including a 70-yard TD -- of Corinth’s 253 rushing yards in the opening half. Haney got 121 yards and his TD over the final 24 minutes.

Kossuth put together its best drive of the night on its third possession of the opening quarter. The Aggies moved 62 yards to the Corinth 20, before Maness ended the threat with his first pick in the end zone.

Two plays later, Shields jetted 70 yards for a 14-0 lead.

Kossuth had six first downs and three turnovers on eight first-half drives. The Aggies totaled 98 yards, but netted only 36 on 25 plays outside of their best drive of the night.

Corinth finished with 18 first downs and 492 total yards on 62 plays. Gwyn and Maness combined to go 4-of-10 for 28 yards through the air.

Kossuth totaled 10 first downs and 168 yards on 60 snaps. The Aggies netted 115 yards on the ground on 43 carries.
