The Aug. 22 season openers are one day closer as teams completed their third day of football practice on Wednesday.

At Corinth, the Warriors welcomed about 60 players on the practice field as workers continued to move closer to the completion of the artificial turf field below.

Corinth is coming off a 10-2 season and its first Division 1-4A championship.

“Everything has gone well,” said third-year Corinth Head Coach Doug Jones. “We’ve had three good days of practice.”

After five days of preseason work, teams are allowed to break out in full gear. Corinth will once again mark the occasion with its Black & Red Scrimmage.

The free admission event will begin at 10 a.m. and wrap up around 11:30 on the practice field. Jones plans on running 15 total series, alternating between three varsity and two junior varsity during the time frame.

“We’re going to get nasty,” said Jones. “Ideally you want to look sharp, but I guarantee we’ll finds some things we need to work on.”

Corinth will play Water Valley next Saturday in the Oxford/Ole Miss Fall Jamboree. The Warriors will open the 2014 season on Aug. 22 at home against Kossuth.
