The hard work and dedication of Corinth and Alcorn County teachers and educational staff will be honored at the upcoming Celebration of Excellence in Education.

The event hosted by the C.A.R.E. Foundation's Commission of the Future of Alcorn County is set for Monday, Aug. 4 at 8:30 a.m. at the Crossroads Arena.

“This event is a great kickoff to the new school year,” said C.A.R.E. Community Foundation Executive Director Mona Lisa Grady. “We are very grateful to be able to bring this caliber of a speaker to our teachers right here at home.”

The free event will feature keynote speaker Angela Maiers, who is known as a pioneer in digital literacy and education technologies.

“Mrs. Maiers has worked to bring compassion-driven learning into classrooms,” added Grady. “I think our local teachers will learn a great deal from her.”

An award-winning educator, author and speaker known for her work in education leadership and innovation, Maiers acts as a social media evangelist and consultant. She helps learners and leaders understand the power of technology with students.

The event will also feature an update on the state of the city and county school systems from Lee Childress and Gina Rogers Smith, along with an update from the Commission on the Future of Alcorn County’s Education Task Force, door prizes and presentation of awards and gifts.

Sponsors are still being sought for the event.

“Sponsorships are very important for this event to continue,” said Grady. “This is a chance for a local business or companies to truly help impact teacher and educational staff training in North Mississippi.”

Six sponsorship levels are available and include wide range of benefits.
