The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is combating several slow adoption months with a special Summer Savings event set for Saturday at the shelter on Proper Street.

The event, scheduled for 10 a.m., to 4 p.m., will include special adoption pricing on dogs and cats, along with a barbecue lunch and car wash.

“It has been very slow this summer for adoptions, so we decided to do a discount event and offer some other fundraising opportunities,” said Volunteer Director Charlotte Doehner. “We hope this might speed up the decision making for those folks who have recently considered adopting an animal.”

The shelter will offer special adoption fees of $20 for some dogs and $10 for cats from 10 a.m., to 12 p.m., while all remaining dogs and cats will be half price from 12 p.m., to 4 p.m.

“Folks who aren’t interested in adopting can still come support the shelter,” added Doehner.

Barbecue sandwiches with slaw and sweet tea and lemonade will be sold from 11 a.m., to 4 p.m. Shelter volunteers will also host a car wash for $15 from 10 a.m., to 3 p.m.

“We’ll also be offering site tours for anyone interested in seeing the shelter,” she said. “We are really looking forward to a good day.”

Even thought the last few months have been slow, Doehner said earlier this week 25 dogs were sent to other recuse facilities including Northshore Recuse in New York.

The shelter is a no-kill, non-profit organization whose mission is to save animals who are injured, neglected, abandoned or abused in Corinth and Alcorn County. It is funded by private donations, the City of Corinth, the City of Farmington and the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors.

“We’re already planning for a big fall event in October,” said the director. “I think people are really going to be surprised by what we're planning.”
