Joey Chestnut has pretty much done it all when it comes to Major League Eating.

Only one title has escaped the MLE veteran of nine years.

Saturday, he gets another crack at eating the World Slugburger Eating Championship away from two-time reigning champion Matt "Megatoad" Stonie.

Chestnut, better known as "Jaws" on the MLE circuit, and Stonie are set to slug it out in another classic showdown at the Corinth Depot in downtown Corinth.

The cheek to jowl battle begins at 4:30 p.m.

Stonie, ranked second in MLE, is two-for-two when it comes to slugburger titles. Last year, "Megatoad" bested his first-year mark of 30 slugs in the contest by downing 31 of the burgers to defeat Chestnut.

Sanctioned by MLE, the 10-minute contest will also include competitive eaters Juan “More Bite” Rodriguez, Ronnie “The Real American” Hartman, “Nasty” Nate Biller, Matthew Raible, Alex “Moose” Perez, Dee Martin, Steve Martin and Chad Cole.

Main Street Director Taylor "The Boss" Coombs and Corinth's Jeff Stark are also part of the field.

"Major League Eaters must dig deep to prevail in the Slugburger discipline," said MLE emcee Sam Barclay. "The slugburger patty, a gut-busting one-two punch of starch and protein, is the ultimate test of an eater's capacity … victory in Corinth is a hard-fought badge of honor."

Chestnut, who won his eighth straight July 4th Hot Dog Eating Championship a week ago, is the top eater in the world. Last year, he gulped down 30 slugburgers to finish just one back of Stonie.

Stonie is the only male eater to defeat Chestnut in competition this year. He bested the world's top eater at a gyro-eating contest in May.

“We are excited to welcome Joey and Matt and to present the 3rd Annual World Slugburger Eating Championship,” said Coombs. "Our annual gathering celebrates Corinth’s local culinary delight, the slugburger – a unique deep-fried beef and soy meal patty that once sold for a nickel."

The winner of the contest will receive $1,500 of the $3,000 total purse.

Chestnut, known for legendary appetite, burst upon the MLE scene after being named Rookie of the Year on 2005. Two years later, he defeated the great Kobayashi in 2007 for his first Mustard Belt.

Slugburgers will be available during the festival. Rollin' Rumps will have some during the entertainment time slot. Borroum's, who provides the burgers for the contest, will also have plenty near the clock on the corner of Cruise and Fillmore.

Prior to the eating contest, children will have plenty to do with the PBJ Happee Days Carnival opening at noon.
