School board approves staff hires

The Alcorn School District board approved a slew of staff hires and rehires for the 2014-15 school year last week.

Board member Randy Wilbanks questioned the hiring of Elizabeth Wamsley as the assistant high school curriculum director for up to 17 additional days this month.

“Ms. Wamsley will be helping Ms. Tammy Johnson during a few weeks to get more comfortable with some of the duties of the curriculum position,” said Superintendent Gina Rogers Smith.

Johnson will assume the testing curriculum and elementary curriculum district roles left vacant by the recent retirement of Federal Programs Director Lisa Wigginton.

Peggie Bundy will resume her role as the district’s food service director. The board voted to hire Tammie Ray and Janet Chism as part of the food service mentoring program.

At the Alcorn Career Technical Center, Tila Johnson will act as the health science teacher, while Nan Nethery will take the teacher academy position.

Sheila Alstatt was approved as an assistant teacher at Alcorn Central Middle School.

The board approved several hires and rehires at Kossuth Middle School. Lisa Benjamin was approved as bookkeeper and Tammy Howie will take a secretary position.

Wayne Sides will act as lead custodian at KMS for the new school year slated to begin in August. Rosa Longoria and Teri Switcher were both approved for KMS custodian positions, as well.

Michael Burcham will take on custodian duties at Alcorn Central Elementary School.

Myra Barnett was approved as the cafeteria manager at ACES. Patty Jones, Becky Hodum and Brenda Fields will also be employed in the cafeteria during the next school year.

At Alcorn Central High School, Donna Wheeler, Rebecca Phillips, Kim McDonald, Kim McCalister and Carolyn Montgomery was approved as cafeteria workers. The board also approved Tammy Jones as cafeteria manager at ACHS.

At Biggersville High School, the board approved the hiring of Gloria Davis as cafeteria managher and Mildred Dilworth, Diane Stacy and Melissa Carter as cafeteria employees.

Rita Downs was approved as cafeteria manager at Glendale Elementary School, while Kristy Dalton was approved as a cafeteria employee.

The board approved Jackie Crum for the cafeteria manager at Kossuth Elementary School. Pam Davis, Mary Spencer, Renay Spencer and Vicki Ree will also be hired as cafeteria workers.

At Kossuth High School, the board approved Susan McKelvey as cafeteria manager. Tommy Lindsey, Evie Smith, Greta Robertson, Ann Crum and Margie Shaw were approved for other cafeteria positions.

Cynthia Pruitt will take on cafeteria manager duties Rienzi Elementary School. Josephine Hilburn and Pamela Davis will also be employed in the cafeteria.

John Shelton will take on lead custodian duties following board approval at Alcorn Central High School. Johnny James will also be employed as a custodian.

The board also approved the hiring of Brooke Leatherwood for the cafeteria substitute position.
