America still at war with terrorism

Al Qaeda has a long history of attacking the US and other western interests as early as 1992. Beginning with the first World Trade Center attack in February, 1993, threatened bombings in New York during the spring of that year, bombing Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996, bombing US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, bombing the USS Cole in Yemen in 2000, and on to September 2001 when Islamic terrorists, al Qaeda operatives, killed nearly 3,000 Americans in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.

Throughout the Clinton presidency of the 1990s, Americans were more or less oblivious to the threat al Qaeda posed. Fewer than eight months into George W. Bush’s first term in office, al Qaeda’s 911 attack finally got the nation’s attention. Washington and the nation unanimously went to war against al Qaeda in remote parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

On the day of that attack, representatives and senators, Republicans and Democrats held hands on the steps of the Capitol and sang ‘God Bless America,’ mourning for the departed and injured, and vowing justice for the perpetrators of that most cowardly act of terrorism.

The ‘war’ had been going on for nearly a decade before we began fighting back in earnest against al Qaeda. We were not fighting against Afghanistan or Pakistan, but fighting against an Islamic terrorist network that stretched around the world.

Apparently, the Obama administration and mainstream media have forgotten this history. Amid the most recent scandals of this administration (VA and prisoner swap) White House talking points and media parroting points say we are ‘ending the war’ in Afghanistan. Really? This is how we ‘end’ a war? Remember, we’ve never been at war with Afghanistan. We’ve been at war with al Qaeda who coincidently has grown in numbers, strength and influence around the globe under President Obama’s watch.

At every turn President Obama has dismissed al Qaeda as little threat to us or the rest of the world. “Osama bin Laden is dead and al Qaeda is on the run!” Mr. Obama proclaimed loud and long after al Qaeda terrorists attacked our compound in Benghazi killing four brave Americans. Over the eight hours of that attack, what military aid did Mr. Obama send? Democrats say we have answered all the questions about Benghazi. Answer that question. And, there are many more questions about what Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton did in the days leading up to that attack, during the attack, and following the attack when they both blamed a YouTube video for sparking a ‘spontaneous demonstration’ by militants toting mortars and rocket propelled grenades!

Hearing our Commander-in-Chief spout the mantra ‘we leave no one behind’ regarding Bowe Bergdalh, one wonders what happened to that sense of duty when Americans in Benghazi begged for help, and none came.

And now our Commander-in-Chief has freed five Islamic terrorists, Taliban commanders who have literally killed thousands including American troops. Mr. Obama and the media are saying he’s ending the war.

Only the naive, gullible, and misled among us believe ‘the war’ is ending. Al Qaeda is alive and well, and Islamic terrorists are attacking and killing innocents daily around the world.

America needs to remember we are still at war with Islamic terrorism because Islamic terrorists continue to conduct war against US.
