Alex Tull made sure Alcorn County didn’t leave empty handed.

The Alcorn Central senior claimed the Class 3A individual title by carding a 150 over the two-day State Golf Match held at Windance Country Club in Gulfport.

Tull, who earned a berth in the season-ending tournament by claiming medalist honors at the Division 1-3A event, opened with a 74 on Wednesday and added a 76 in Thursday’s final round.

Kossuth, making just its second appearance at state, finished fifth for the second year in a row. The Aggies shot a 754, 16 strokes better than their initial foray at Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison.

St. Patrick led a seven-team field with a 642, including a 313 in the opening round. They took 23 strokes off their championship total from last season.

Booneville, which claimed the 1-3A title, finished second. The Blue Devils were 62 strokes off the pace, following a 347 with a 357.

Jack Kather paced Kossuth with a 173, posting the team’s lowest total on each day. Luke Lyles was next at 192.

The top five remained unchanged from the first 18 holes of play. Mooreville and McLaurin traded spots after the final round, with the Troopers improving 15 strokes, while McLaurin fell back 38.
