BIGGERSVILLE -- Everything seemed to be falling Tuesday night for the Biggersville Lions as they won in dominant fashion against the West Union Eagles -- 101-48 -- in the opening round of the Class 1A Boys North State Tournament.

The Lions, whose record sits at 25-5, will host the remainder of the tournament as they look to repeat as Class 1A State Champions.

BHS will play Coldwater (23-6) in a quarterfinal matchup Thursday at 4 p.m. The two have met in the two previous North and State title games with the North State runner-up (Coldwater 2012, Biggersville 2013) rebounding to win the coveted gold ball.

The rest of the matchups are Ingomar-Smithville (5:30), Shaw-Ashland (7:00) and Coffeeville-Blue Mountain (8:30).

Thursday’s and Friday’s game are elimination contests.

• As a team, Biggersville dropped 17 three-point shots and Daniel Simmons put on a shooting clinic as he scored 35 points in the contest, with 18 coming in the third quarter.

The senior forward knocked down nine treys and snatched down six rebounds. Slater Huggins was second in scoring with all 12 of his points coming in the fourth quarter.

The Lions only allowed 19 points in the first half and kept up the intense defensive play for the rest of the game.

Eagles' Senior Tyler Wooley led the way for West Union in the scoring column with 15 points. The Eagles, the No. 4 seed from Division 2-1A, finished the year with a 10-24 record.
