Kossuth girls win big over Central; Aggies edged by Devils

BOONEVILLE -- The Kossuth girls’ squad came out to play Thursday night at Northeast against the Alcorn Central Lady Bears as they won in a romp, 66-44, in the semifinals of the Division 1-3A Tournament.

Kossuth (22-5) will take on Booneville, which knocked off second-seeded Belmont in the final game, tonight at Northeast in the title round as they hope to continue their journey to the Big House in Jackson.

The first quarter was as close as it got as the Lady Aggies headed into the second period with a 16-14 lead. KHS increased its lead from every quarter on. Kossuth shot 7-of-19 from behind the arc, accounting for 21 of its 66 total points. They finished the game with only nine turnovers and forced the Golden Bears to commit six of their own.

Kossuth shot 65 percent (15-23) from the charity stripe. Lady Aggie guard Parrish Tice led the way in scoring for Kossuth as she scored 20 points in the contest, 12 points coming from behind the 3 point line.

The Lady Bears (17-12) just couldn't hold up to the Aggies' high caliber offense and that proved to be their downfall. After only scoring nine points in the second quarter and 10 points in the third, they were looking at a near unconquerable deficit heading into the fourth quarter down by 12.

Alexis Harmon was at the top of the card for scoring for the Lady Bears as she put 15 on the board for the game. Briley Talley was right behind her with 10 of her own.

The Kossuth Aggies lost 59-55 to Booneville in the first semifinal game. Kossuth will take on North Pontotoc tonight at in the consolation game.
