Time is ticking down toward giveaway day for the annual Lighthouse Foundation Toy Store as the need for the program continues to rise.

Registration for the annual effort that provides Christmas toys for those in need concludes this Monday and Tuesday with shopping day set for Dec. 12.

Foundation Executive Director Gary Caveness said the number of registrations this year is beyond anything they've ever seen.

"We've had way more than last year," he said.

The final registration sessions for the Christmas toy program are set for Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon and Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the foundation's center on South Johns Street.

Applicants should bring photo identification for themselves, proof of residency in Alcorn County (such as a utility bill or rent receipt) and Social Security cards and birth certificates for each child.

This marks the 16th year for the program which helps provide Christmas gifts for children in need in Alcorn County.

Caveness said donations are currently at approximately one-fourth of what's needed to support the program and they are counting on the community to step up once again and help them help those in need during the Christmas season. He said he's blessed to be a part of a community that's always come through and he has faith that God will provide that support again this year.

"He's always come through, but He always does it His way," said Caveness.
