The Corinth High School cross-country program wrapped up another stellar campaign with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Class 4A State Meet held Saturday at Mississippi College’s Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

Perennial champion Pontotoc swept the annual season-ending meet.

Pontotoc claimed a 10-point margin -- 71-81 -- on the girls’ side, with the PHS boys winning 49-76.

“We had a great state meet,” said Corinth Coach Larry Mangus. “Finishing second to Pontotoc was amazing due to the age of our team members. We are very young with only one senior.”

Class 4A is the largest for cross country with 60 teams, including 31 male, competing in the event.

• The Lady Warriors finished with a school-record 90 head-to-head wins during the season.

Emma Knight (4th), Yvette Evans (10th) and Brianna Scobey (12th) all made the All-State team.

“Everyone ran great and they really finished strong by really gaining places from mile one to the finish,” said Mangus. “I’m so very proud of them all.”

Corinth had to go without an injured Holley Marshall. Although the margin could have been much closer with her services, Mangus was proud of the way everyone stepped up in her absence.

“The ladies were outstanding!” said Mangus. “The good news is we have everyone back next year.”

• The Warriors finished with 114 wins overall. Saturday’s 27-point margin was the closest they had been to Pontotoc all season.

“It was an outstanding performance for such a young team,” said Mangus.

Corinth’s top-five finishers -- Morgan Toomer (5th), Dennis Dilworth (13th), Reed Pearce (14th), Will Crigger (15th) and Rosley Smith (29th) -- all set personal records.

Toomer, just a 7th grader, finished 5th out of 180 runners. He was joined by Dilworth and Pearce -- the club’s captain and lone senior -- on the All-State team.
