Corinth tallied three fourth-quarter touchdowns over a span of 1:38 to pull away from Booneville 38-17 Friday night at Warrior Stadium II.

The Blue Devils, who had taken 12-3 lead one play into the second quarter, got to within 17-14 with 7:48 remaining in the contest after Zane Lott and Tyler Floyd combined to sack Corinth’s Antares Gwyn in the end zone.

Booneville (2-1) would get no closer, however, as Jose Contreras pounced on the ensuing free kick at the Booneville 39. Corinth (3-1) scored five plays later, then turned consecutive Blue Devil fumbles into a pair of scoring drives that saw the Warriors travel a combined 32 yards in three plays.

Corinth, which came in with seven lost fumbles and an interception in three games, played turnover-free ball for the first time this season. Officially, Booneville turned the ball over four times (since the free kick wasn’t touched it’s not recorded statistically as a turnover) but avoided any damage until the two fumbles deep in its own territory over a three-play span that accounted for 48 seconds of possession time.

Corinth went 39 yards in five plays after Contreras’ heads-up play on the free kick. Brice Spence’s 6-yard run made it a 24-14 contest with 6:22 remaining.

The Warriors were back in the end zone 11 seconds later as Kendrick Williams turned a Robert Briggs’ sack and forced fumble into a 7-yard scoring run.

Williams, who rushed for 171 yards and three scores on 22 carries, put the final nail in the coffin on a 16-yard scoring run with 4:44 remaining. Corinth’s third TD in 1:38 came two plays after Cody Davis recovered a Booneville fumble at the Blue Devil 25.

Corinth totaled 358 yards of offense on 59 plays, doing most of its damage on the ground. Spence, making his second appearance and first start in the backfield, added 138 yards on 18 carries as the Warriors rolled up 358 yards on the ground.

Booneville sandwiched consecutive scoring drives around a 29-yard field goal by John Michael McFall in building a 12-3 lead one play into the second quarter.

The Devils marched 90 yards in seven plays, going up 6-0 on a 5-yard run by Zeus Rogers with 3:27 left in the first. Jack Simpson connected with Rogers for a 42-yard gain on the final play of the opening period, then Andrew Lambert scored on the next play to push the visitor’s lead to 12-3.

Booneville had a chance to take a three-score lead on its next possession. Chris Sparks gave the Devils possession at the Corinth 13 following a blocked punt.

The Devils reached the Corinth 2 before a sack by Zantario Jacobs and a pass break-up by Quajae Fisher forced a turnover on downs.

Corinth seized the momentum, scoring on its next two drives and taking a 17-12 lead at the break. Williams busted loose for a 73-yard run after the Warriors stopped Booneville’s scoring drive, then Gwyn connected with Quentin Patterson for a 13-yard score on second-and-long.

Booneville finished with 282 yards on 60 plays. Behind Rogers’ 20 carries for 117 yards, the Devils rushed for 135 markers. Simpson passed for 147, going 11-of-21 with an interception.
