The Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau nominated and
elected a new chair and vice-chair as part of the September meeting
of its Board of Directors.
Set to soon begin their duties as the new officers for the CACVB Board
are Chris Porterfield, serving as chair, and Jason Grisham, soon serving
as the new vice-chair; and Glennan Grady was elected to remain seated
as the board's secretary/treasurer. The elected officers will officially
take on their new duties beginning Oct 1.
In other major items of business, the board approved funding requests
from area organizations. The first approval was $1,000 made by the
Friends of the Curlee House for the spring Corinth Home and Garden
Tours to benefit the Verandah-Curlee house.
CACVB director, Kristy White, said that last year's event was "quite
successful" and that she had been informed that over 1,000 tickets
had been sold for that event. She went on to say she knew that 42%
of those who attended were from outside of Corinth.
The board approved $2,250 for a funding request for the landscape
maintenance of shared downtown properties made by the CARE Advisory
Board. Board member Jason Grisham suggested the funds be pulled from
the Crossroads Museum budget and it was later noted that the museum's
outdoor maintenance is included in the maintenance the funds will
pay for. The board approved $750 requested by the Mississippi Department
of Archives and History to help with expenses incurred for the upcoming
Personal Treasures event to take place at the Corinth Public Library
on Oct. 15-16.
White noted the MDAH had invested a lot in the local community LINK:
The Health Communities-Healthy Youth Initiative of Corinth and Alcorn
County requested $450 to be used to provide lunches for community
volunteers assisting with programs for Corinth and Alcorn County public
school students during LINK's Heritage Festival Activities taking
place Oct. 6 and Oct. 30.
The board approved the funds.
After several other minor items of business, the board adjourned until
their next session set for Oct. 20.
