“This was a very tragic accident that has affected a lot of lives,” said Selmer Mayor David Robinson. “We just need to put our arms around the people that have been affected and offer them our prayers.”

“We are just devastated,” said Bro. Ray Burks, pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church where Pope was an active member. “We just have to trust the Lord and remember that God does not make mistakes. Our church and our community are grieving right now.”

McNairy Central was hit especially hard by losing students R. Griswell, and Replogle, The injured list had four MCHS students - Aeriel Hickman, Ginny Beth King, Roger Pitchford and Jason Mullins.

There were at least four MCHS graduates included on the injured list - Amy Meeks Driskill, Cody Tomaszewski, Chris Mettlen and Cindy Stevens. Driskill is the newylwed wife of victim Sean Michael Driskill.
