The Medicine Shoppe is a modern day pharmacy with an old timey feel. Owners Susan and Chris Tate have made sure that customer service is on the top of their list. They know most of their customers by name, they are diligent for checking on drug interactions and their store isn’t cluttered with candy, magazines and other items found in chain drug stores.
It is instead filled with smiling faces and a staff willing to help.
The Tates have owned the shop for 14 years and have been located at 411 West 10th Street since 2005. Before that they were closer to Floyd Medical Center. The move allowed them to have a larger space with more parking. But no matter how big they get Susan Tate says they think of themselves as a community pharmacist.
“We still think of ourselves as a small-town independent pharmacy,” she said.
She said that most of the time the staff sees a customer exiting their vehicle through one of the large picture windows. “We have their order ready when they walk in the store,” she said.
The Medicine Shoppe is also one of the few places around that offers “Medicine On Time” a mutli-dose package design that features the correct time a certain pill is supposed to be taken. The program is currently being used in assisted living facilities in Rome.
The Tates understand that they have to be competitive with big chain retailers who offer lots of shopping incentives. But they are competitive in their own way, with great service.
“Our wait time to get a prescription filled is low,” Susan said.
She said their two pharmacists, including Chris Tate, take the time to counsel customers on medications.
“There have been quite a few drug interactions Chris caught,” she said.
The pharmacy is open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. To contact The Medicine Shoppe call 706-295-5713.
