Hanging Around Rome

Reclaimed wood frames, blown glass jars, hand-thrown ceramic bowls and watercolor landscapes cover the walls of Hanging Around Rome.

Although the store advertises itself as custom framing, helping decorators hang their artwork is only one of the shop’s services.

The store also serves as a gallery for regional artwork.

“Everything is one-of-a-kind,” said owner Jenny Hunt. “It’s unique and it changes constantly.”

The gallery features items such as ceramic bowls and mugs, blown-glass and paintings, among others.

But framing is Hunt’s priority.

“If my customer feels like it’s important enough to put in a frame, it needs to be preserved,” Hunt said.

On a counter is almost a yard of mattes for placing inside one of the hundreds of frames that cover multiple walls.

Some frames are made from unusual materials such as wood from old homes in New Orleans.

“I think we’re very creative in picking out the design for that item,” Hunt said.

It is at 1205 Dean Ave., and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
