IUKA -- With the general election less than a month away, State Rep. Bubba Carpenter is encouraging people to "Get Out and Vote."

This is the theme of the new rally set for Thursday at Mineral Springs Park. The free event is from 4-6 p.m. Those who attend can enjoy some barbecue and live music.

Carpenter is hosting the event and providing the food.

"It's going to be great. We are going to have barbecue, drinks and desserts. The public will get the chance to meet their local Republican candidates," said Carpenter, a Burnsville native.

The event is to inform the public about the importance of electing conservative candidates, said Carpenter.

"We want people come out and have a good time, but meet the candidates firsthand and learn about each one of them," said Jerry Don Keith, president of the Tishomingo County Republican Party.

Keith said the event is not a political speaking, though anyone can share a few words.

"It's a meet and greet rally," he said.

Some of the special guests attending the event are U.S. Congressman Trent Kelly, Sen. Rita Parks and Sen. Michael Watson, a Republican candidate for Secretary of State.

"People can ask questions and interact with the state officials," said Carpenter.

According to Keith, there is a possibility other state candidates may attend. Music will be provided by the Lisa Lambert Band, he said. An LC9 Ruger will be given away to one of the lucky people in the crowd.

"All they have to do is get a ticket and be there for when we do the drawing," he said.

Keith is excited about the event.

"Overall, it's just going to be a fun afternoon. Not only do you get to meet your local Republican candidates, but you will meet all kinds of people as well," said Keith, a Tishomingo native.
