Two new members are set to join the tourism board following appointments made by the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors Monday morning.

The board selected Nickey Shaw for the county-appointed seat on the Corinth Area CVB Board of Directors and concurred with the Corinth Board of Mayor and Aldermen's appointment of Rickey Marecle for a jointly appointed seat on the board.

Shaw will follow Sandy Mitchell, whose term expires Oct. 17. Mitchell did not seek reappointment as she prepares to take on the duties of tax assessor in January.

Fourth District Supervisor Steve Glidewell, who made the motion to appoint Shaw, said he is a lifelong resident of Alcorn County who is looking to become more active in the community.

Marecle will take the seat previously held by Billy Taylor. The seat is designated for a representative of the local restaurant sector, and Taylor recently left the restaurant business. Marecle, director of operations for Little Properties, will serve the remainder of the term, which runs through October 2021. He is a previous tourism board member who is returning to the board.

Terms on the seven-member tourism board are four years.

Supervisors also appointed Ron Moore, who works in local radio, to the Alcorn County Human Resource Agency. He replaces Randall Eldridge, who did not seek reappointment.

In other business, the board agreed with Waste Connections' recommendation to keep the start time for county garbage pickup at 6 a.m. The earlier start time was originally implemented to help sanitation workers avoid the summer heart, but Operations Manager Eric Ekiss believes it will benefit customers to not have a changing schedule of start times.

The board's next regular meeting is Monday, Oct. 21, at 5:30 p.m.
