Man dies after hit by train

The Corinth Police Department is investigating the death of a man who was hit by a train early Monday.

The man was identified as Jimmy Lee Harris, 60, of the Fort Robinette Apartments in Corinth.

Coroner Jay Jones said the railroad reported at about 2:40 a.m. to 911 that the train had hit an individual on the railroad tracks about a half mile off the Highway 45 southbound lane headed west. He described the area as behind Pine Lake Estates and just inside the city.

Police Chief Ralph Dance said statements from the engineer indicate that he saw the man standing on the tracks, but it was not possible to stop the train in time.

"We are still investigating it," said Dance, "but right now we are ruling it as a suicide unless we come up with some new evidence."

Video footage from the train will be reviewed.

Corinthian Funeral Home will have the arrangements.
