Arrests bring drug charges

Several area residents face charges for drug offenses following arrests during the last few days.

Dylan E. King, 27, of Corinth, and Melissa K. Brandon, 36, of Tishomingo, were arrested on Thursday following a traffic stop by the Alcorn County Sheriff's Department. King is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and Brandon is charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Sheriff Ben Caldwell said a deputy stopped a vehicle in which the two were traveling on Highway 72 West near County Road 604 and found them to be in possession of 24.5 grams of alleged methamphetamine.

In a separate arrest on Friday, the Tishomingo County Sheriff's Department charged a Rienzi woman following a traffic stop.

Janet Hardy Johnson, 50, of Front Street, is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Sheriff John Daugherty said a deputy observed a passenger throwing an object later identified as a methamphetamine pipe out the window during the traffic stop. A deputy then found some alleged methamphetamine on the passenger.

Bond was pending Friday afternoon.
