Wilson eyes city referendum on term limits

With term limits dying a second time Tuesday evening in a vote of the Corinth Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Ward 1 Alderman Chris Wilson said he will turn his attention to a petition effort to force a referendum on the issue.

Wilson made two motions — one to impose term limits on boards and commissions such as the hospital, school board and utilities commission, and one to impose term limits on the mayor and aldermen. Both died for lack of a second.

Wilson encouraged proponents of term limits to attend the meeting, and the board room at City Hall was full. The board allowed individuals to speak, and the discussion disintegrated into personal attacks, with Police Chief Ralph Dance having to step in and restore civility to the proceedings.
