Booneville pilot killed in plane crash

A Booneville resident is among three people killed in a plane crash Saturday evening in Union County.

Co-pilot Jarrod Holloway of Booneville, pilot Tommy Nix of Belmont and Nix's wife, Merline Nix were killed when the Rockwell Sabreliner 65 twin-engine jet crashed into a wooded area between New Albany and Blue Springs.

The aircraft took off from the University Oxford Airport and was enroute to Marion County-Rankin Fite Airpot near Hamilton, Ala. when it crashed around 10:30 p.m. Saturday according to Federal Aviation Administration officials.

The plane crashed during a period of severe storms, but FAA spokesperson Rick Breitenfeldt told the Associated Press it is not clear yet if weather was a factor.

The FAA and the National Transportation Board will investigate the crash.
