Church will host event with best selling author

Priscilla Shirer

Area ladies will have the chance to learn from one of the nation's top selling Christian authors.

New York Times best-selling author and Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer and Christian recording artist Anthony Evans will lead worship for an Oakland Baptist Church women's event.

Oakland Baptist Church will host the Going Beyond Simulcast with Priscilla Shirer, formerly known as the Priscilla Shirer Simulcast, on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The cost of the event is $15, which includes a box lunch. Doors will open at 8 a.m. and childcare is available for nursery through sixth grade.

Shirer's program will be simulcast from Mobile, Ala., and the choice to host the simulcast at OBC was part of a revitalization experience for the church's women's ministry. The original idea was to take a small group down to Mobile, but that didn't seem to have enough reach, according to Teresa Fett, a member of the OBC women's ministry.

"We decided we could reach more people by hosting the simulcast at Oakland and get a lot of us experiencing it, hearing this great message, and worshiping together," said Fett. "This is not just for Oakland members. All women in the community are welcome to come."

Presented by the Nashville-based publishing company, LifeWay Christian Resources, The Going Beyond Simulcast brings women together from all walks of life across the globe in their churches or homes for a day of biblical teaching, prayer and worship.

Priscilla Shirer is a wife and mom first, but put a Bible in her hand and a message in her heart, and see why thousands meet God in powerful, personal ways at her live events.

With a Master's Degree in biblical studies from Dallas Theological Seminary, Shirer brings the depths of Scripture to life. She is the author of best-selling Bible studies, including "Discerning the Voice of God," "The Armor of God," "Gideon," and "Jonah," as well as the author of many books, including "Fervent" and the New York Times best-seller "The Resolution for Women." She and her husband, Jerry Shirer, lead Going Beyond Ministries.

"Priscilla's messages are always so vibrant and relevant. She's just so real. She brings the same wonderful quality to everything she does," said Fett.

The worship music promises to be every bit as vibrant as the message.

For more than a decade, Anthony Evans has voiced the gospel with such a melodic, thought-provoking style that he has emerged as one of Christian Music's premiere male vocalists, songwriters and worship leaders. His time in Los Angeles with NBC's hit show The Voice led him to think more progressively about his music--without compromising his faith and message.

Evans wants to speak in terms that connect with people spiritually, no matter where they are at in their faith journey. With seven solo projects, multiple music videos, and inspirational literary collaborations with beloved pastor and international speaker Dr. Tony Evans, he has vibrated the doors of the church and ventured beyond.
