More candidates qualify for local elections

Another supervisor gained an opponent on Friday, and a second person joined the special election commissioner race late in the week.

Mark Coombs filed qualifying papers to run for Fifth District supervisor as an independent candidate against the incumbent, Jimmy Tate Waldon, who is running as a Democrat.

Coombs, a Corinth resident, is vice president - manufacturing since August 1994 at Corinthian Furniture.

Waldon, who is seeking a fourth term, is a former county school board member of 14 years and was an officer of the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 14 years.

Independent candidates now number 13 out of 28 for the county offices.
