An explosion at a mobile home near Biggersville has left one person dead.

The massive explosion at the home on County Road 514 near Oak Grove Church happened around 7 p.m. Friday, leveling the doublewide home and spreading debris in a wide path around the structure. A door from the home could be seen across the street near the church.

Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell said firefighters responding to the explosion and fire discovered one individual deceased. Investigators with the state fire marshall's office were on the scene Saturday morning and Caldwell said the investigation is continuing and they are awaiting a determination from the fire marshall on the cause.

The body of the victim has been transported to the state crime lab in Jackson for identification and determination of cause of death, said Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones.

Alcorn County Emergency Management Director Ricky Gibens was on the scene early Saturday and said the house was completely destroyed in the explosion. He said a cause has not yet been determined pending the investigation by the fire marshall's office.
