Holiday closings, garbage routes set

By Jebb Johnston

The next couple of weeks will bring office closings and changes to garbage collection schedules as the Crossroads celebrates the holidays.

City of Corinth and Alcorn County offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday both weeks — Dec. 24 and 25 and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. State offices will close on the same days.

City garbage routes

Residents should expect routes to begin at 6 a.m., an hour earlier than usual, during the holiday period.

For the weeks of both Christmas and New Year's, the Monday and Tuesday routes will both be picked up on Wednesday. The Wednesday route will be picked up on Thursday, and both the Thursday and Friday routes will be picked up on Friday.

It's the busiest trash week of the year, and Public Works Director Clayton Mills encourages residents to help keep it tidy by breaking down large boxes and getting them inside the can.

The street department will soon mail out a complete schedule for trash collection for all holidays in the coming year.

County garbage routes

For Alcorn County garbage customers, Waste Connections will run the Monday route as normal in both weeks.

The rest of the routes will run a day later than normal — Tuesday's route on Wednesday, Wednesday's route on Thursday, Thursday's route on Friday, and Friday's route on Saturday.

Other closings

• The Corinth Library, as well as all other northeast region branches, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday both weeks.

• Banks will be closed on Tuesday of each week. Schedules will vary otherwise with some closing early on Christmas Eve.

• The federal holiday is Tuesday only for both weeks.

• The Daily Corinthian business office will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The newspaper will publish a paper on Christmas Day.
