The "Countdown to Disney" is officially here for Havis' Kids.

With just 62 days to go until local special needs children and their families spend a week at Walt Disney World, the last major fundraiser is planned for later this month.

Havis' Kids is selling Kenny's Bar-B-Q plate tickets for $10. The donation includes meat, bun, slaw and dessert. Plates can be picked up from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18. Kenny's Bar-B-Q is located adjacent to Biggersville High School on U.S. 45.

The fundraiser has an option for a pound of Kenny's famous pork barbecue for the $10 ticket.

Free delivery is available for groups or families who purchase 10 or more plates. Tickets can be purchased at the Village Outlet in downtown Corinth or contact Jamie Bryant at 662-415-4426.

"This is our last big fundraiser for the trip," said Havis Hurley, Havis' Kids founder, at Sunday afternoon's meeting at Corinth City Hall. "Let's get these tickets sold."

Hurley continues to recover from spinal cancer and stem cell transplant surgery. He said he appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers from throughout the community during his battle with cancer.

Hurley plans to make the trip with his family on Oct. 7-13.

"I won't be able to do much, but I'm going," he said.

Havis' Kids has four other smaller scale fundraisers in August.

• Havis' Kids Night at McAlister's Deli in Corinth will be from 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 and Tuesday, Aug. 21. Volunteers will wait tables and help cleanup. Havis' Kids get all tips those evenings and a percentage of the overall sales.

• A Havis' Kids Paint Party will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27 in the blue building at Kossuth. The theme will be "Disney/Fall." Contact Brenda Ford for more information at 662-415-2120.

• A car show will be held at Pappy's Garage in Tupelo on Friday, Aug. 31. All proceeds will benefit Havis' Kids.

"We are getting the word out in Lee County about Havis' Kids," said organizer Kay Harrelson.

She plans to release more information to the Daily Corinthian as planning for the car show continues. Over 80 vehicles are already registered.
