Community members can make a difference.

A large donation of dry and canned goods and household items was recently collected from community members. Those important donated items will be sent overseas to local troops who are currently deployed.

The project was hosted by Modern Woodmen of America, and it was their local members who donated items which will be packed into boxes and sent overseas with the help of Mid-South Project Package.

"We're so happy to support our community in this way," said Modern Woodmen volunteer leader Jonathan Marsh. "Events like this give our members an opportunity to make a difference."

The project fundraiser took place on June 14 at the Modern Woodmen district office in Corinth.

Based in Southaven and lead by Corinth native Rickey Pope, Mid-South Project Package is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization that sends a monthly care package to local mid-south service members.

Modern Woodmen is a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society offering life insurance, annuity and investment products. Members make an impact through social, educational and volunteer activities in communities they are located in. In 2016, Modern Woodmen provided $21.7 million and 562,388 member volunteer hours for fraternal activities and programs nationwide.
