Autopsy: Man died of gunshot wound to head

Preliminary autopsy results show a gunshot wound to the back of the head to be the cause of death for Corinth handyman George Harris.

Police Chief Ralph Dance received the results Wednesday from the state crime lab.

"It is what we suspected, but we wanted to confirm it before we released it," he said. "We're moving forward with a homicide investigation."

A large amount of evidence from the scene has also been transported to the state crime lab.

Dance said the department continues to interview individuals and encourages anyone who may have information to come forward.

At about 8:35 a.m. Monday, a concerned employee asked officials to check on Harris when he didn't report for work. Officers found Harris deceased in a screened-in porch area at his residence at 2014 Liddon Lake Road. Individuals who worked for Harris were gathered at the shop behind the residence, waiting to start the work day.

The 57-year-old operated a business that provided repairs around the home and lawn and garden services.
