Tate St. bridge set to reopen

The closed Tate Street bridge is set to reopen to traffic Thursday morning.

Public Works Director Clayton Mills shared the good news with the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Tuesday evening.

It will be about three months before the city brings in a contractor to pave the approaches. Mills said it needs to settle before paving.

He said the contractor did a good job of keeping the project moving. There was some delay stemming from the relocation of a utility line by C Spire.

The bridge crossing Elam Creek was closed in October following an inspection by consultants hired by the Mississippi Department of Transportation as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration. The inspection cited deterioration of the bridge pilings.
