Child hurt after being struck by vehicle

GLEN — A six-year-old boy was injured late Friday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle.

According to an initial report from Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell, a six-year-old boy was injured when he was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the road in the area of Alcorn County Road 400.

The sheriff said it appears the child's mother ran of gas in the area where the accident occurred. The boy and his sister reportedly went across the road to get some gas from the house there.

The accident happened as the children were returning, he said. The sister made it across the road, but the boy was trying to cross when a vehicle struck him.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at about 5:30 p.m.

Air Evac was subsequently dispatched to the scene and the child was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

The sheriff said the child was in serious condition.

Caldwell said he would release more details about the accident to the Daily Corinthian as it becomes available.
