SAVANNAH, Tenn. -- Funeral services for Thomas L.J. Ward, 89, were held Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, Tenn. Burial followed at the Hollands Creek Cemetery in Savannah, Tenn.
Mr. Ward died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2017. He was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Hardin County, Tenn., the son of the late Frank and Alley Seaton Ward. On Sept. 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Annie Pearl Qualls, who survives. He attended Cherry Grove Pentecostal Church in Milledgeville, Tenn. He worked at ITT Phone Company, in Corinth, for 24 years.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Byrd and husband Steve of Midland, Texas and Donna Featherstone and husband George of Savannah, Tenn.; sisters, Hazel Benson and Nollie Ray, both of Savannah, Tenn.; 7 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

NEW JOHNSONVILLE, Tenn. -- Funeral services for June Mitchell, 79, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at the New Johnsonville First United Methodist Church. Burial was at the First United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell died Friday, Nov. 23, 2017, at St. Thomas West in Nashville, Tenn., after fighting a long battle with lung disease. She lived most of her life in New Johnsonville, Tenn., where she and her husband raised their children and grandchildren, which were the joy of her life. She was loving, kind, humorous, faithful,forgiving, strong and courageous. She was everything to her family. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, great grandmother, a friend, a cheerleader, a counselor and she was loved passionately by her family.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jack Mitchell of New Johnsonville, Tenn.; her daughter, Jacquelyn Fox (John) of Sweetwater, Tenn.; sons, Clay Mitchell of Nashville, Tenn., Lee Mitchell (Lizzie) of New Johnsonville, Tenn., and Taylor Mitchell of New Johnsonville, Tenn.; brother, Dick Taylor of South Haven; sisters, Joyce Clements of Dallas, Texas, Janet Strickland of Memphis, Tenn., and Jane Coleman of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Lauren (Nathan), John Michael, Callie (Bo), Sloane, Matt, Alex, Tommy, Cole, and Jordan; and four great-grandchildren, Camden, Eli, Isaiah, and Alia.
