A weekend collision on U.S. Highway 45 claimed the life of a crossroads
area woman.
The fatality victim of the two-vehicle wreck has been identified as
Junnie Lentz, 83, of Corinth, according to the Mississippi Highway
Patrol.
The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 45 South at Camp Warriner Road
late Saturday afternoon. Report details state that a 2007 International
truck (an 18-wheeler) driven by Claude Allen Jr. was headed southbound
on U.S. Highway 45 and collided with a 1999 Toyota Tacoma driven by
John W. Lentz, 82. Lentz was accompanied in the vehicle by a passenger,
his wife, Junnie Lentz.
The accident occurred when Lentzs vehicle was attempting to
cross U.S. Highway 45 from Camp Warriner Road and pulled out in front
of the 18 wheeler, according to Allen Lyles, a crash investigator
for MHP. Lentzs vehicle was struck on the passenger side.
Junnie Lentz was transported to Magnolia Regional Health Center, where
she later died of her injuries. There was no report of John Lentzs
or Claude Allen Jr.s condition at press time.
Biggersville Fire Department responded to the crash for extrication.
Officials also had to deal with diesel fuel leaking from the semis
fractured tank, said Patrick Claunch, deputy chief for BFD.
The crash was worked by MHP Trooper Nathan King. Lyles noted that
the crash is still under investigation.
