The finish line
is in sight for area high school students hoping for a shot at winning
a new ride in the first ever Drive For Success student achievement
promotion.
Drive for Success, sponsored by Long-Lewis Ford, Lincoln, Mercury
and the Daily Corinthian, offers high school juniors and seniors from
Kossuth, Alcorn Central, Biggersville and Corinth high schools the
chance to win a new 2008 Ford Mustang or one of several other prizes
by maintaining perfect attendance and keeping their grades up.
Daily Corinthian Publisher Reece Terry said with the final grading
period for the program nearing an end, it's important students get
their entries in for the contest. Students should bring their report
cards to Long-Lewis on Harper Road at the end of each grading period
to register. All entries must be received before the first drawing
on May 3.
"Students should make sure they all get entered in this exciting
contest," said Terry. Students are eligible to submit three entries
for each A on their report cards, two entries for each B and one for
each C. Students also get one additional entry for perfect attendance.
On Saturday, May 3, twelve finalists, three from each school, will
be drawn to take part in the grand prize drawing. The following Saturday,
May 10, a grand prize drawing will be held at Long-Lewis. The grand
prize winner receives the new Mustang while the other 11 finalists
will win one of several prizes including a laptop computer, gift cards
and others. Corinth School District Superintendent Dr. Lee Childress
said the Drive for Success program is an excellent example of how
community partnerships can benefit students and he believes it's had
a very positive impact on students.
"Incentives like this from the community provide addition encouragement
to help them continue to excel," said Childress. He said this
type of program can actually make a difference in the graduation rate
by giving students who may be considering dropping out an extra incentive
to stay in school and complete their education.
