A Corinth woman is dead after the vehicle she was riding in struck
a City of Corinth brush collection truck as workers collected brush
on the side of Proper Street Thursday morning. Misty Joy Barnett/Lipe,
31, was pronounced dead the scene of the two vehicle crash on Proper
Street just east of the Pinecrest Road intersection. Corinth Deputy
Police Chief Scotty Harville said two city street department workers,
James Edward Williams Jr. and Clarence Turner, were loading brush
into the truck on the side of the road when it was struck in the rear
by a 2000 Kia traveling westbound on Proper Street driven by William
M. Lipe Jr., 33, of Corinth.
Lipe was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Calls seeking information on his condition Thursday afternoon were
not returned.
Harville said Turner was on the ground handing brush and debris up
to Williams who was standing in the rear of the truck when the crash
happened.
Turner was able to get clear of the crash and Williams fell into the
pile of brush in the back of the truck when it was struck.
Corinth Street Commissioner Jim Bynum said both workers were transported
to Magnolia Regional Health Center to be checked out but suffered
only minor scratches and bruises in the accident.
The police department's accident reconstruction team was on the scene
of the crash immediately following the collision and the case remains
under investigation.
