FARMINGTON -- A 29-year-old Burnsville woman was pronounced dead at
the scene of a single-vehicle accident early Friday morning.
The accident occurred on County Road 200 in Farmington after the victim
-- identified as Helen L. Appleby, of 109 County Road 298, Burnsville
-- left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant, according to a report
from the Alcorn County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office received the call at 7:14 a.m. Officers on the
scene were Deputy Jeff Mills and Deputy Lucas Wooten, along with the
Farmington Fire Department, First Responders and Magnolia EMS.
Reportedly, Appleby's 1996 gold-colored, two-door Saturn, appeared
to be traveling eastbound on County Road 200 when she left the roadway
on the right side, went off the embankment and struck a fire hydrant.
Deputies believe the car flipped a couple of times, but landed upright.
The victim was found outside the vehicle.
"She was ejected from the vehicle -- she appeared not to have
been wearing a seatbelt," said Deputy Mills.
Alcorn County Coroner Dan Leeth was called and pronounced the victim
dead at the scene at 7:45 a.m.
"The cause of death was blunt trauma due to an automobile accident,"
said Leeth.
No further details were available. Cutshall Funeral Home in Glen is
in charge of arrangements for Appleby.
