Staff writer Bobby Smith is a 2001 graduate of Wheeler High School. He attended Northeast Mississippi Community College, where he served as editor of the student newspaper, and studied English at Ole Miss and the University of North Alabama. For his work covering news in the Crossroads area, he has won Mississippi Press Association awards for reporting and photography. Home for Bobby is the Osborne Creek community of Prentiss County, where his family has lived since the Civil War.

Wendy Talley has been the secretary at Alcorn Central High School for 14 years. Before that, she worked in the Corinth School System for three years. “My favorite part of the job, the part I enjoy most, is being around the kids and being able to help them when I can,” said Talley. When’s she’s not at work at Alcorn Central, Talley enjoys playing in a local ladies’ tennis league and going to the ballgames and activities of her two children — 18-year-old Riley, a student at Northeast Mississippi Community College, and 13-year-old Brady, who attends Alcorn Central Middle School, where he plays basketball and baseball. She has been married to Randy Talley for 20 years. They attend Oakland Baptist Church.
